Prepares, produces, and serves a variety of foods from fresh, canned, dry, or frozen state according to recipes and assists in other related tasks in a designated food service production and/or service area.
Core Responsibilities
- Prepares or assists in the preparation of a variety of main and side dishes and accompanying menu items, including sandwiches, meats, vegetables, and fruits as specified by the menu, recipes, and production records.
- Sets up and merchandises food and food service areas as well as serves food.
- Operates kitchen equipment such as, but not limited to, electric mixers, slicers, ovens, stove tops, steamers, braising pan, warmers, dishwasher, etc.
- Utilizes kitchenware such as, but not limited to, knives, spatulas, whisks, tongs, spoons, and ladles.
- Practices safe food handling according to Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Point (HAACP) or ServSafe, and Food Service Standard Operating Procedures.
- Assists in the monitoring, reduction, and management of food waste.
- Cleans and sanitizes pots, pans, and kitchen utensils.
- Performs daily, weekly, and monthly deep cleaning of the facility, service areas, and all kitchen equipment such as counters, tables, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, mixers, mobile carts and rolling racks.
- May clean and maintain work area, including floors, facilities, utensils, and equipment. Collects and places garbage and trash in designated container, as appropriated to the area of operations.
- Assists with catering when needed.
- Assists in taking inventory.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Position requires a minimum of High School Diploma. Experience in school food service/food service preferred but not required.
Working Conditions
Hot (Kitchen) and cold (Cooler, Freezer)
Ability to safely lift and move 35-50 pounds (over 15% and up to 60% of the time.)
Standing for extended periods of time on concrete and tile floors.
Reach in all directions. Bend, twist, kneel, and stoop. Repetitive hand and arm movements. Using sharp knives and equipment, cleaning with caustic chemicals, and working on potential wet and slippery floors. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Non-slip shoes will be required.
