About
Whitten Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (SCDBHDD).  Its purpose is to assist individuals with disabilities and their families in meeting needs, pursuing possibilities, and achieving life goals by: 1) addressing individual needs, 2) encouraging choice, 3) promoting growth in skills and abilities, and 4) facilitating social interaction and community involvement.  This is done in a setting with a wide range of services that encourages personal independence balanced with the need to provide a safe, secure, and supportive environment.  Whitten Center provides 24-hour residential care, supervision, treatment to SCDBHDD’s most fragile consumers, those individuals with more complex and severe disabilities.
